  • Completed ICF/MR survey with the fewest number of deficiencies in recent memory.
  • Realized 5% residential census reduction.
  • Developed 20 new legal guardians for Caswell Center individuals.
  • Revised the Rights Investigation protocol, in-serviced staff & implemented new process.
  • Revised the Incident Reporting procedures, developed an incident reporting policy,revised the Incident Report form in order to capture computer data, in-serviced all appropriate staff, and implemented changes.
  • Revised and implemented the Interdisciplinary Process Manual.
  • Revised and implemented a new Personal Assessment and Habilitation Plan format.
  • Initiated the process for computerization of the Habilitation Plan.
  • Initiated the development of a Mental Retardation Habilitation Coordinators Manual.
  • Implemented an audit review process of Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
  • Implemented new support device/restraint policies & procedures including Safety Plan.
  • Created a new database for restraints in order to expand reporting.
  • Created a database to capture cumulative diagnoses.
  • Developed and implemented Mealtime Guidelines for the homes and trained appropriate staff.
  • Initiated a study of the Resident Field Trip Planning protocol in order to streamline the process.
  • Developed new mechanical lift/sling operational procedures for the Center.
  • Completed campus wide inventory of Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy supplies and new storage space was identified for these items.
  • Downsized X-ray Dept. and combined it with the Laboratory for increased efficiencies.
  • Downsized Dental Dept.  by one position with quality services being maintained.
  • Completed Recreation Dept. realignment to allow for two therapists for each division.
  • Successfully transitioned the supervision of the Advocacy Dept. to the newly created Advocacy and Customer Services Section of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.
  • Began entering daily census via laptop computer to eliminate the need for a second shift employee to complete this task.
  • Revised the Utilization Review Audit Tool.
  • Revised and automated the Annual Client Review Form.
  • Completed a campus-wide forms review which eliminated over 1,000 documents.
  • Trained approximately 1,850 employees in the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and implemented privacy safeguards.
  • Implemented North Carolina Intervention (NCI) by training 15 instructors and implemented initial training for over 1000 employees.
  • Certified additional CPR instructors.
  • Developed a van driver training package.
  • Revised and implemented new Educational Assistance Procedures.
  • Completed and implemented a 12-month Staff Development Training calendar.
  • Provided approximately 3,000 hours of training, technical assistance to Eastern Region supporting over 2,800 individuals and their families.
  • Sponsored a Conference on Aging which cumulatively attracted over 1,000 participants.
  • Completed renovations of the Parrott Homes, resulting in more functional and home-like kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and living and bedroom areas; planned for the re-entry of appropriate individuals; and initiated plans for complete meal preparation.
  • Erected a new greenhouse at the Caswell Corner to enhance employment program.
  • Completed Elm Cottage clothing store renovation.
  • Completed Pecan Lane and Spectrum parking lots.
  • Maintenance enabled bar code scanning of work orders and warehouse supplies to improve tracking of inventory and charging of supplies to specific jobs.
  • Extended fiber optic cabling across Hull Road for computer and telephone improvements.
  • New employee identification badge system installed.
  • Installed a color digital copier.  Quicker printing of color documents and duplexes.
  • Installed a new digital duplicator to replace old plate printer. Permits quicker turn around, better quality, uses less floor space, creates no hazardous waste, and allows quicker color changes.
  • Obtained a Kate B. Reynolds Health Care Trust grant to start a Telemedicine Clinic.
  • Received $9,583 from the State and local Knights of Columbus to fund five proposals that were submitted from across campus.
  • Completed beautification project in the 101 Johnson home with the help of the "Mission Connect" Group. The group donated labor and $4,000 in materials.
  • Young people from Southern Baptist churches across North Carolina joined youth who came from other states for "Mission Connect".  Project is an ongoing part of the NC Baptist Men's Disaster Relief and Recovery.  Volunteers donated 2,465 hours of service.
  • Opened two additional work sites for Foster Grandparents.
  • Successfully implemented new "The Angel Tree" volunteer project, providing additional Christmas gifts for over 50 individuals with limited resources.
  • Publications Committee began its work, resulting in new paper with new name and different layout.
  • Historical video's first public viewing was to the Lenoir County Historical Association.
  • Joined the Heritage Tourism Council to network and increase awareness of the Museum and Visitors Center.
  • First Annual Staff Memorial Service for deceased employees.
  • Dietary provided 1,500 meals for staff during Hurricane Isabel.
